On this day:

Marlow 5 Mayhem

Today I ran the Marlow 5, a local 5 Mile road race. I didn't really have any specific targets, I was just using it as a part of a long run. I ran:

2.5 Miles Warmup - NB 832's (new blue pair)
Marlow 5 in 27:52 (5:16, 5:34, 5:34, 5:42, 5:44) - Saucony Fastwitch
2.5 Miles Cooldown - NB 832's (new blue pair)

Felt like tripe after 400m, and the first mile didn't turn out to be that quick (I knew it wasn't going to be my day then). I tried to stick with Hayley Yelling, and it didn't pay off (she finished about a minute ahead of me). Hip and shin were generally ok, didn't feel anything whilst or after racing, so the accupuncture generally worked (a few spots where the needles went in). Not too bothered about the time, as the course wasn't as pan flat as suggested, and it was windy (hopefully overdistance too, but thats way too much to ask!). Relatively happy that I out surged a guy from Newbury AC over the last mile (as they falsely accused me of cheating in a cross country relay 2 years ago, prats...), I wouldn't want the Marlow 5 to lose its reputation by having one of those guys in the top 10 (I came 10th). Quite dissapointed that I averaged a slower pace over 5 miles than I did last week over 6.21, but such is life.

I'm going to restructure next week to maximize my chances of a decent time at the County 5k track championships, I dont fancy another dissapointment.
